How We Will Eliminate the Wait
Eliminating the wait is not a simple task. It requires a multifaceted
approach.
1. Recommendations for changes
MAHCP members are on the front lines of healthcare delivery.
The organization’s membership represents more than
160 occupations in clinics, hospitals, private practices, and a
wide range of agencies in communities around Manitoba. This broad
membership base provides a diverse perspective, ideally suited to
observe and make broad recommendations about how the healthcare
system can become more effective and efficient.
You, the consumer of healthcare services, have
a unique viewpoint and have experienced the health care system first
hand. We believe that if we rally users of healthcare services to
speak out, solutions will evolve and decision-makers will listen.
We will bring together elected representatives, administrators,
health care workers and the public to share ideas on how to make
the best use of our health care resources. Make
your recommendations here.
2. Advocacy
Manitobans must become advocates for their health care system and
effectively communicate their desires to their governments. Health
care must be treated as a priority by our political leaders, and
the long-term erosion of health care and hospital budgets must be
stopped.
You can join the force
for change.
No one holds immunity status when it comes to
our health care system. If you are not already being treated within
the system, you know of someone who is. Your full participation
in the ‘Eliminate the Wait’ campaign will ensure a highly
responsive system when you need it and especially when illness is
threatening your quality of life to say nothing of your very existence.
3. Get Healthy - Stay Healthy
All Manitobans have a responsibility to minimize their individual
burden on the healthcare system. Improving and maintaining good
health is an important contribution to eliminating the wait, and
the MAHCP can help. Take a look at Get Healthy - Stay Healthy
tips, provided by MAHCP members, which provides the opportunity
for everyone to learn about nutrition, exercise, relaxation, and
prevention - important contributors to your good health.
Finally, we look to the media to help us share information in our
efforts to eliminate the wait, get healthy, and stay healthy.
4. Attracting and Keeping the Most
Talented Health Care Professionals
Attracting and retaining skilled healthcare providers is vital. It
is essential that we stop the drain of healthcare professionals to
other parts of Canada. Equally important is attracting trained and
talented healthcare professionals to work in our province. The MAHCP
continues to work to improve wages and working conditions for these
front line personnel, the foundation of a stronger healthcare system.
Bringing the ideas for improvement and suggestions for positive
changes to the attention of our elected officials is also crucial.
Governments are positioned to provide the resources that will facilitate
change, and the MAHCP’s talented membership is ready and willing
to deliver insightful perspectives on healthcare efficiencies and
improvements.
5. Attracting and Keeping New Health
Care Professionals
The MAHCP is working to communicate the benefits of choosing a
career as a health care professional to high school students to
develop the best and the brightest to serve Manitoba’s health
care consumers. This visionary approach is not a short-term solution,
but will pay dividends for all Manitobans into the future.
If we unite health care workers, governments, media
and the public to develop ideas and actions we will eliminate the
wait.
